Pregnancy in Orange
Pregnancy changes the way we see the body.
In this original oil painting, I explore the pregnant figure through rich color and expressive forms, focusing less on creating a traditional portrait and more on capturing the physical presence of pregnancy. The rounded shapes, shifting colors, and simplified figure emphasize the transformation taking place in the body.
There is something both familiar and extraordinary about a pregnant woman. The body becomes visibly different, sometimes almost overnight, while carrying on the very ordinary business of being a person. That contrast between the monumental and the everyday dis part of what interests me.
I wanted the painting to feel vibrant rather than overly delicate. The color gives the figure a sense of warmth and presence, while the expressive forms keep the composition moving.
This piece comes from my exploration of pregnancy as both a physical experience and a visual subject. It isn't meant to explain motherhood or tell a particular story. Instead, it captures a moment when the body itself becomes the story.
A painting about pregnancy, transformation, and the wonderfully strange business of growing a person.
