Sometimes silence says plenty. Silence explores the strange space between what we want to say and what we actually say, or don't.

An expressive figure sits within a soft, dreamlike composition of pale blues, pinks, and deep purples. Above it, the word Silence almost disappears into the background. You have to look for it. And that's intentional. The figure seems caught somewhere between expression and restraint, surrounded by all the visual noise of thoughts, feelings, and tangled words while the most important thing remains unsaid.

Like much of Mari Jae's work, Silence takes something familiar and gives it a slightly unexpected twist. What looks quiet at first becomes more complicated the longer you look.

Sometimes the loudest thing in the room is what nobody says.

I'm Mari Jae. I'm a classically trained oil painter who makes paintings about people, politics, absurdity, relationships and whatever else won't leave me alone.
