The Tree in the Forest Print
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears it… does it still need to say hello?
The Tree in the Forest takes one of philosophy's most famous questions and gives it a distinctly Mari Jae twist. A dramatic tree stretches upward through a fantastical landscape, its branches tangled against a deep green background. Hidden among the foliage are expressive little figures, small presences within a much larger world. And somewhere in all that complexity is the simplest human impulse of all:
Hi.
The work plays with questions of visibility, connection, and self-awareness. What does it mean to exist when nobody is paying attention? Do we need to be seen? Heard? Acknowledged? Or maybe sometimes we just want someone to say hello. Whimsical, slightly philosophical, and full of visual surprises, The Tree in the Forest rewards a closer look. The more you explore the branches and tangled forms, the more characters and possibilities seem to emerge.

Digital Print of an Original Oil Painting made by an actual human.
I'm Mari Jae. I'm a classically trained oil painter who makes paintings about people, politics, absurdity, relationships and whatever else won't leave me alone.
